Simulated moving bed chromatography (SMBC) is an efficient and continuous multi-column chromatography separation process, which can separate binary or pseudo binary mixtures into two groups of high-purity monomers or a group of high-purity monomers and a group of mixtures. SMBC achieves the continuous injection, separation and collection through valve switching and the consequent switching of the sample inlet, mobile phase inlet, extraction outlet, raffinate outlet and circulation outlet at a certain frequency. Compared with traditional preparative chromatography, the SMBC process allows for increased productivity and higher yields of purified material with reduced eluent and packing materials.
Typically, SMBC system is divided into three or four zones. The automation software controls the constant switching of all inlet and outlet positions to the next position, and the column or stationary phase will simulate flow to the left. The flow of stationary phase is caused by continuous valve switching. Therefore, it is called simulated moving bed.
Applications:
Petrochemical industry Sugar industry Food industry Fine chemical industry Chiral separation Pharmaceutical raw materials Extraction of traditional Chinese medicine Natural products
Features:
High efficiency
3-8 times more productive than single-column separation systems
High cost-efficiency
Increased efficiency with reduction of solvent cost by 20-50% and packing materials cost by 50-80%
High purity
Balanced between high output and high purity. The product purity can be equivalent to or even better than that of single column, and the product is highly concentrated, reducing the workload of concentration.
